August 1989 to June 2004 - Chairman and Professor, Engineering and Technology Department, St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley, 3400 Pershall Road, St. Louis, Missouri 63135.

 

In 1995, served as a Program Director for the Advance Technology Education (ATE) program, Division of Undergraduate Education, National Science Foundation. Worked with the program officers for mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and geological sciences, engineering and advanced technology areas. Primary responsibilities included management of the ATE and engineering projects, and interaction with college and university faculty from across the country.  Initiated the first ever celebration of Community College Day at NSF, and the study of technician education systems in foreign countries. Lead a national team to Germany to study the famous Dual-System of technician education.

ADMINISTRATIVE  AND  LEADERSHIP  ACTIVITIES

Currently supervising a science, technology, and math focused academic division comprising 39 full-time faculty, 22 professional and classified staff, and approximately 80 adjunct faculty members, and with a personnel and operating budget of approximately $5,750,000. The division offers three transfer and several A.A.S. and certificate programs in 10 different academic areas.

Currently leading the effort to establish St. Louis Regional Engineering Academy and Project Lead The Way engineering curriculum at St. Louis area schools.

Led the development of 2-plus-2 program with Southeastern Missouri State University, whereby years three and four of SEMO’s Industrial Technology program are offered at the Florissant Valley campus.

Led the development of 2-plus-2 Industrial Technology Education program with Southeastern Missouri State University.

Led the development of a new program in Plastics Technology.

Lead the development of a unique accelerated, certificate, weekend, training program in Telecommunications Technology for the employees of Southwestern Bell Telephone

Helped formalize an on-the-job certificate training program for the employees of Hussmann Corporation

Helped formalize an on-the-job certificate training program for the employees of McDonnell Douglas

Helped formalize an off-campus training program for the members of the American Society for Quality Control

Member of the Instructional Team for St. Louis Community College’s Strategic Technology And Redesign Services (STARS) Project.

Served as Chairman of the Academic Advising Task Force at St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley

Served as a member of the Florissant Valley Development Program Task Force

Served as a member of the Districtwide Cultural Diversity Committee

Served as Chairman of curriculum committees at St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley and at West Virginia Tech, and member of the District Curriculum Committee at St. Louis Community College

RESEARCH  AND  CONTRACTUAL  WORK

--In 2003 received $650,000 College Career Transitions Initiative (CCLI) grant from the League of Innovation for Community Colleges, a project initiated by the U.S. Department of Education.

--In 2002 received $640,000 Gateway to Manufacturing Excellence grant from the National Science Foundation under the Advanced Technological Education program.

--In 1997 received $62,000 Instrumentation and Laboratory Improvement (ILI) grant from the National Science Foundation to establish a Basic Technology Concepts Laboratory.

--Recently received $165,000, 2-year, sub-contract to join an on-going Advanced Technology Center activities funded by the National Science Foundation to implement Mecomtronics Engineering Technology program.

-- Recently received $70,000 grant (sub-contract) to host a national conference on strategies for recruitment and retention in engineering technologies.

--In the twelve years of service at West Virginia Tech, successfully completed in excess of $700,000 of federal and state grant works related to on-the-job training and safety related research projects. These projects include:  Roof Fall Study for the West Virginia Department of Mines from 1980 to 1985;  Mine Mapping and Surveying Seminar for MSHA in 1986;  ATRS Waiver Guidelines Study for the West Virginia Department of Mines in 1982
