The discussion board is used to engage students in collaborative learning activities throughout a course. In this part of the activity, you will post an assignment on the discussion board.
Posting items in the discussion board requires a two-step process. The first step establishes a Forum to hold the discussion. The second stop creates the Threads, the messages that comprise the discussion.
Creating a Forum
Unlike most of the instructor functions in CourseInfo, the discussion board is accessed from the student's view. Now create a forum and post a discussion thread to the forum.
Step 1: Return to the course.
Step 2: Select the Communication navigation button.
Step 3: Click the Discussion Board icon.
Step 4: Choose Add Forum.
Step 5: In the Title area, type: Rainforest Discussion Assignment
Step 6: In the Description area, type: This forum will hold all correspondence relating to the Types of Rainforests Discussion.
Step 7: Under Forum Settings check the options Allow author to edit message after posting, Allow file attachments, and Allow new threads.
Note: The forum settings allow you to assign students privileges for posting and editing their discussion threads.
Step 8: Click Submit. The new forum will appear.
