Adding External Links
Instructors can designate several course related external links for students to visit during a course. These can be integrated into the course and used to take students on virtual "field trips" to course related places on the web. In this section, you will add some Rainforest links to the course.
Note: It is the responsibility of the instructor to maintain the external links section. Often, sites may move or be edited by the site owner. To avoid finding missing or broken links in a course, perform weekly link "site checks."
Step 1: From the Control Panel, select External Links.
Step 2: Select the Add External Link button.
Step 3: Enter the title of the first URL, The Rainforest Action Network.
Step 4: Enter the URL http://www.ran.org
Step 5: Type a brief description of the link: Rainforest Action Network works to protect the Earth's rainforests and support the rights of their inhabitants through education, grassroots organizing, and non-violent direct action.
Step 6: To open the link in a new window, select Yes to the External Window option
Step 7: Click Submit to complete the process. A receipt will appear to confirm the process.
Step 8: View the link by clicking Return to Course and then clicking External Links.
Step 9: Click on the link. A new browser window will open and take you directly to the site.
Step 10: Close the new window and return to the CourseInfo window.
Create another external link. Use the following information to take students on a virtual trip to the Ecuadorian Amazon. Be sure to set the External Window option so that students open a new browser window.
