Michael and Stela 9 at Lamani it was created and erected on 7 May 625 by King Smoking Shell who ruled Lamina as its principal lord and Sun King. 5 people were sacrificed when this stela was erected. 4 infants and an 8 year old child. They believed that their blood was a pure offering of human souls that would give supernatural power to the stela and temple erected by Smoking Shell. Their religious beliefs do not make sense to modern Americans, but seem very rational to the ancient Maya.
