Course
Prerequisite:
MTH 210 with a
grade of C or better.
Text:
Calculus, James Stewart, Brooks/Cole Publishing Co.;
6th Edition.
1. The student will
graph, differentiate, and integrate the logarithmic, exponential, inverse trigonometric, and hyperbolic functions as well as be able
to use them in applications.
2. The student will
use integration by parts, trigonometric substitutions, partial fraction
technique, and other integration methods to compute integrals.
3. The student will
evaluate indeterminate forms and improper integrals using the L'Hospital rule.
4. The student will
recognize sequences and series and apply various tests to determine their
convergence.
5. The student will
represent functions by power series and use these representations in
applications.
6. The student will
recognize and graph conic sections using standard equations.
7. The student will
graph plane curves using parametric and polar equations.
8. If a
symbolic/graphing software package is used, the student will verify
computations of derivatives and integrals, as well as plot the graphs of
functions and curves using this software.
There will be 5 unit tests worth 100 points each. The lowest test grade will be dropped.
There will be a comprehensive final examination worth 100 points.
A superior 90 – 100 %
B above average 80 – 89 %
C average 70 – 79 %
D passing, below average 60 – 69 %
F failure 0 – 59 %
Make-Up Tests:
Students may arrange with the instructor to take a test early. No make-up tests will be given after the test date. If one test is missed, then that will be the dropped test grade. If more than one test is missed, then the student will receive a grade of zero for that test. The final exam grade may be substituted for those grades at the discretion of the instructor.
Attendance is clearly an essential factor in successfully completing any mathematics class.
Although
homework is not collected, completion of all assigned problems is essential to
a thorough understanding of the material.
A W
will be issued if a student initiates and completes the course withdrawal
process prior to the end of the 12th week of classes.
Disability Support Services
has been designated by the college as the primary office to guide, counsel and
assist students with disabilities. If you receive services through the ACCESS
OFFICE and require accommodations for this class, make an appointment with me
as soon as possible to discuss your approved accommodation needs. Bring your Instuctor Notification Memo provided by the ACCESS OFFICE
to the appointment. I will hold any infomation you
share with me in strictest confidence unless you give me permission to do
otherwise.
If
you have not made contact with the ACCESS OFFICE and have reasonable
accommodation needs, (volunteer notetaker, extended
time for tests, seating arrangements, etc.), I will be happy to refer you. The
ACCESS OFFICE will require appropriate documentation of disability.
If you have a disability and have no need for accommodations, the use of ACCESS OFFICE is voluntary.
