Types of Databases

The two types of databases that you will be using are: library catalog and article databases.

Library catalogs


Classic Catalog.

Search It!

organize all of the materials a library purchases. These include books, magazines, journals, newspapers, videos, sound recordings, etc.

The Classic Catalog does not include articles.

Search It! also searches across many of STLCC Libraries' article databases.

   
Article databases are used to identify articles on a topic.

InfoTrac.

Some article databases such as Academic OneFile are general or multidisciplinary.
ABI Inform Many databases specialize in a particular subject area, such as biographies, education, law or business.
