The Ceramics program at STLCC-FP is designed to meet the needs of all levels of students from the novice to the experienced. Courses are intended to teach students about the technical as well as the formal details of making three-dimensional art. Nationally renowned visiting artists provide valuable opportunities for interaction and the chance to learn from artists at the top of their field. The program’s instructors, all of whom are working artists and have received MFAs, are able to guide students in both utilitarian and non-utilitarian pursuits, emphasizing ceramics as one of the most versatile media available to the contemporary artist.

Ceramics is housed in the newly remodeled Art Annex adjacent to the main campus. The new glaze room boasts a state of the art ventilation system, as well as a 48 cubic foot spray booth. The classroom proper is well appointed with electric, kick/momentum and two English-style treadle wheels as well as a slab roller and two extruders. Two gas reduction kilns compliment two electric kilns and a small electric test kiln. In addition a sandblasting booth is available for post-firing alteration. The new facility’s location on the ground floor also offers the exciting potential to expand firing options to provide the rare opportunity to build and fire kilns such as wood-fired, salt, soda and raku kilns.
