COURSE DESCRIPTION:

 

This course includes operations on algebraic expressions, solving linear equations, the Cartesian coordinate system in two dimensions, slope of a line, and graphing techniques.

 

 

COURSE PREREQUISITE:

 

MTH:030 with a grade of “C” or better, or satisfactory score on placement test.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

 

The students will:

  1. simplify expressions using rules of exponents
  2. convert numbers between ordinary notation and scientific notation
  3. evaluate formulas
  4. add, subtract, multiply, and divide polynomials
  5. solve linear equations, including formulas
  6. factor expressions with a common factor, difference of two squares, and trinomials
  7. operate on algebraic fractions
  8. locate points on a two-dimensional rectangular coordinate system
  9. calculate the slope of a line
