During the first week of the semester, it is the responsibility of each instructor to furnish, in writing, the course objectives and a course syllabus.  The objectives are stated below.  The syllabus should include instructor information, course information, expected outcomes, course requirements, method of evaluation and an explanation of grading policies, policies on make up work, ground rules for class participation, a tentative class schedule, withdrawal dates, expected classroom behavior, information on the math learning center, consultation (office) hours, and an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodations statement.

 

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

 

Topics include systems of linear equations, properties of matrices and determinants, vector spaces, linear transformations, inner products, and eigenvalues, as well as selected applications.

 

 

COURSE PREREQUISITE:

 

MTH 210 with a grade of “C” or better, and Reading Proficiency.

 

TEXT:

 

Elementary Linear Algebra, Grossman, 5th Ed., Saunders Publishing.

 

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

 

The student will…

  1. be able to use systems of linear equations to solve selected problems.
  2. learn the basic concepts of matrix theory and determinants and be able to apply them.
  3. learn to apply vectors to the solution of two and three dimensional problems.
  4. be able to recognize vector spaces and subspaces.
  5. learn the properties of linear transformations.
  6. learn to calculate eigenvalues and eigenvectors.
