The Photography program at STLCC-Meramec is a specialization within the art department that can lead to a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree -- upon completing the Associate in Fine Arts (AFA) degree at Meramec, you can transfer - with no loss of credit - to the University of Missouri-St. Louis under the new AFA/BFA agreement. You can also transfer to many other colleges, universities or art schools in the United States. Meramec's Photography program is recognized for its excellence and consistent quality by local and national art institutions. The curriculum provides foundation training in general art courses, a background in art history and a strong emphasis in photography from basic to advanced levels. A generous selection of electives allows flexibility in pursuing your individual interests, particularly in the emerging trends in digital photography.
Your professors are exhibiting, professional artists. You will also learn from well-known visiting artists who lecture, demonstrate, conduct workshops and exhibit in the Meramec Art Gallery.
Meramec provides you with state-of-the-art facilities in which to learn and the learning tools to complement the superb teaching of the Meramec art faculty. A $3.5 million expansion of the Humanities East (art and music) building now houses enhanced classrooms, labs, studios and sophisticated graphics and computer facilities.
Your AFA degree can lead to careers in many exciting fields. Former Meramec photography graduates now hold a variety of positions as college and high school teachers, independent artists, studio photographers, lab technicians and photojournalists.
