Self Paced Hands-On Math Lab

Dr. Fran Endicott ArmstrongFran graduated in 1968 from Fontbonne College in St. Louis, Missouri with a bachelor's degree in mathematics and having fulfilled requirements for teacher certification on the secondary level in math. In 1978 Fran received her Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from the University of Pennsylvania.

She has taught mathematics in senior high school and also in Grades 5, 6 and 7. She has taught Saturday mathematics classes to 4- and 5-year-olds and also 4th-grade students for Gifted Resource Council. At the college level she has taught Business Mathematics, Elementary, Intermediate and College Algebra and also Methods of Teaching Mathematics in the Elementary School.

At St. Louis Community College at Meramec, Fran has designed two courses, HANDS-ON ARITHMETIC WORKSHOP and HANDS-ON ALGEBRA WORKSHOP, to help college students understand the basic concepts underlying arithmetic and algebra. These courses are also beneficial to teachers at all levels (from teachers of primary grades through adult education) to learn how to use math manipulatives to enhance students' understanding of mathematics.

Fran serves as the Coordinator and Lead Mentor of the Self-Paced Hands-On Math Lab at The Soulard School, and independent elementary school in the City of St. Louis.



Toni Garrett
St. Louis Community College at Meramec

Toni graduated in 1969 from St. Louis University with a bachelor's degree in mathematics. In 1971 she received a master's degree in mathematics from Washington University and in 1994 a master's degree in computer education from Fontbonne College in St. Louis. She has taught mathematics from 7th through 12th grade.

Toni is a Professor of Mathematics at St. Louis Community College at Meramec where, since 1989, she has taught all levels of mathematics from Basic Math through Survey of Calculus including Mathematics for Elementary Teachers and Hands-On Arithmetic and Hands-On Preparation for Algebra.
