St. Louis Community College of the United States and Hunan Normal University of China are developing an educational exchange program. Hopefully, this exchange program will include faculty exchange and information exchange between the two institutions.

Starting in 1998, there have been four groups (two faculty and two student groups) which have visited Hunan Normal University. In 2000, Dean Sawyer went to Hunan Normal University on behalf of Chancellor Shannon to sign the official Memorandum of Understanding for the exchange.

In 1999, the first delegation led by Vice President Luo Wei Zhi (including Dean Li Songbai, Dean Zheng Yan and Director Du Hong) visited St. Louis Community College.

The second delegation led by Vice President Chen Xiangsheng from Hunan Normal University visited St. Louis Community College from July 15 to July 19, 2001.

Members of the delegation included: Professor Ning Yizhong, Dean of College of Foreign Languages and the Interpreter for the delegation; Professor Ling Xianchu, Associate Dean of Music and Fine arts, Professor Ding Duben, Dean of College of Continuing Education, Associate Professor Zeng Gehui, Dean of College of Chemistry and Chemical Industry.

FP/Hunan Luncheon.

During the visit to St. Louis Community College at Forest Park this summer the first exchange faculty from SLCC, Margaret Johnson, made a presentation on American Education system. Dean Bart Devoti introduced to the delegation the history of St. Louis Community College, college admission policies, budget, administration and college management. Donna Bakke, FP Web Coordinator, presented the web site of the Exchange Program to the delegation. They were very impressed by the web site which includes Chinese music and background. There was a good discussion after these two presentations.

Dr. Ron Smith hosted a luncheon for the delegation. At the luncheon, Chancellor Henry Shannon introduced to the audience the new President of Forest Park, Dr. Pat Nichols. On behalf of the administration, faculty, staff and students, Dr. Nichols welcomed the delegation and told the delegation that she will continue the strong support of the China Exchange Project. All the associate deans and representatives of faculty and staff attended the luncheon.

The members of the delegation visited their counterparts in the afternoon. They visited the English/ESL, Chemistry, Music, and Continuing Education departments. They met with Deneen Sheperd, English Department Chair, Sharon Person, English as a second language coordinator, Pat McEwen, Chemistry Coordinator, Music Coordinator James Hegarty, and Ralph Pickering, Manager of Continuing Education. The delegation also visited University of Missouri St. Louis (UMSL) and University of Missouri, Columbia campus. The delegation enjoyed their tour of St. Louis which included the St. Louis Art Museum, History Museum, Forest Park (the citiy's largest park) and the St. Louis Arch.
