This mural is in the center of town. It depicts life in Grand Raids.
At this resturant on the road into town, the fish gets to eat you first.
Here's a view of just a small section of the log pile stacked up behind the Blandin mill.
Typicall downtown Grand Rapids.
A plaque located at the entrance to River Park. It reads:
The heart of industry in Grand Rapids is papermaking. This original building, now a part of the Blandin Paper Compnay, is incorporated into the newer buildings, reflecting continuous expansion and improvement.
Employing over 1,000 people, Blandin Paper Company is a groundwood paper mill using primarily aspen, spruce and balsam to create coated paper for the magazine printing industry.
Dispatch Printing Company purchased the Itasca Paper Company in 1916 when Charles K. Blandin was its general manager. Mr. Blandin eventually became the owner of the mill and changed its name in 1927 to the Blandin Paper Company. In the 1940s, Blandin Paper Company ceased the production of newsprint and converted to making coated paper. Today, the Blandin Paper Company is one of the largest groundwood paper mills in the world.
