Large beef bone (identified by Dr. Michelle Loyet at the University of Illinois). Length = 14.2 cm., shaft diameter = 4.7 cm. and weight = 239.0 grams. Found by the SLCC excavation in square 8 at a depth of 30 to 40 cm. below surface.







Large beef bone (identified by Dr. Michelle Loyet at the University of Illinois). Length = 7.1 cm. and weight = 90.0 grams. Found by the SLCC excavation in square 9 at a depth of 10 to 20 cm. below surface.







Sirloin steak round bone measuring 4.0 cm. in diameter, 1.8 cm. in thickness and weighing 7.9 grams. Found by the SLCC excavation in square 4, upper layer number 1.







Left and right, pig teeth (identified by Dr. Michelle Loyet at the University of Illinois). Weight = 9 grams. Found by the SLCC excavation in square 8 at a depth of 40 to 50 cm. below surface. Right, incisor tooth to a boar. Length = 6.3 cm, width = 1 cm. and weight = 8.3 grams. Found by the SLCC excavation in square 8 at a depth of 30 to 40 cm. below surface.







Oyster shell found by the UMC excavaton in 1967, reg. no. 184. Length = 11.7 cm. and weight = 122.9 grams.




Colleen Hamilton et al. (1988:64) summarized the study of 275 animal bone fragments from the First State Capitol site. The 1987 sample included whitetail deer (Odocoileus virginianus), sheep/goat (Ovis/Capra), domestic sheep (Ovis aries), pig (Sus scrofa) and probably domesticated cattle (Bos tarus).
