Apple Creek Site (23PY1706)

The Apple Creek Site is a village site situated along a small tributary of the Mississippi River. Surface finds from the site by amateur archaeologists indicate that occupation began as early as the Dalton Period and extended into the Historic Period. This site is located on private property and it is not open to the public.

Table Rock Stemmed point from the Apple Creek Site. Length = 50.0 mm, width = 27.4 mm, thickness = 9.1 mm, weight = 11.5 grams. [There is a small patch of airplane glue on the surface of the artifact from a time when it was glued to a frame.]



Etley point from the Apple Creek Site. Length = 55.0 mm, width = 44.8 mm, thickness = 14.0 mm, and weight = 28.9 grams.



Gary point from the Apple Creek Site. Length = 57.0 mm, width = 32.3 mm, thickness = 8.6 mm and weight = 18.0 grams.



Crisp ovate point from the Apple Creek Site. Length = 22.9 mm, width = 13.6 mm, thickness = 5.0 mm, and weight = 1.3 grams.

Grog tempered rimsherd with combed decoration from the Apple Creek Site. The sherd measures 10.2 mm in thickness and weights 5.2 grams.



Cordmarked rimsherd from the Apple Creek Site. The sherd measures 5.1 mm in thickness and weighs 18.3 grams. It make be grog tempered.



Clay bead from the Apple Creek Site. Height = 9.4 mm and diameter ranges from 10.5 to 11.2 mm. Weight = 1.1 grams.
