The Russian Orthodox Church of the Assumption in Shimsk, Russia dates to the 18th century and is typical of
thousands of small Russian Orthodox churches. I visited the church and community of Shimsk on Saturday, 17 June 2006. My visit was in conjunction with a
Fulbright study project in Russia.

Russian Orthodox priest teaching in a small room opening off of the south side of the nave. The community is too small for a full time priest, but
is regularly visited by a priest who holds mass. A visiting priest was advising teenagers about the
Russian Orthodox faith when I visited.
