excavation of the mound discovered four phases of mound construction. This mound
is approximately 450 feet south and slightly west of the Great Sun's Mound.
Reconstructed Natchez Indian house at the Grand Village was built in 1988 based
upon French historical descriptions and archaeological data.
The Natchez used a long stemmed prairie grass to thatch
their houses. The actual houses would have woven mats protecting the packed clay walls.
Granaries were elevated to hinder raccoons and
other "critters" from disturbing stored corn, dried squash, dried meat, etc.
