Interesting artifacts from the Renner Site (23PL1) from Gary Brenner's research



Clay figurine found in the bottom of Middle Woodland pit features 31282 during the 1982 field season. Length = 8.2 cm., Width = 5.5 cm., Thickness = 1.9 to 3.3 cm. Weight = 101 grams. Line drawing by Gary Brenner and published in Kansas City Archaeologist no. 1, Figure 4b.





Side view of the figurine. Pregnant or birthing? Gary Brenner (1986:40) reports that it was found in a small pit (no. 31282) that was 70 cm. wide and 120 cm. deep. A second effigy was found in the same pit. Arms, legs, and heads were missing from both figurines.





Worked and drilled hematite miniature shield. Length = 5.2 cm., Width = 4.8 cm., Thickness = 0.5 cm. Weight = 19 grams.



Sandstone abrader (no. 302). Length 10.3 cm. Width = 7.8 cm. Thickness = 4.2 cm. Weight = 266 grams.



Extremely long, unifacially flaked blade knife (no. 90). Made from a gray flint that closely resembles Mill Creek flint. Length = 16.0 cm. Width = 3.9 cm. Thickness = 1.2 cm. Weight 83 grams.



Groundstone celt made from diorite. Length = 10.9 cm. Max. width = 6.4 cm. Bit width = 5.7 cm. Butt width = 3.4 cm. Max. thickness = 3.6 cm. Weight = 431 grams.



Groundstone celt made from basalt (no. 343). Length 20.3 cm. Width = 9.0 cm. Thickness = 5.5 cm. Weight = 1476 grams.
