Stone molds for metal casting illustrated by Rybakov (1971). These were discovered in the secret hiding place in the Church of the Tithes in Kiev (Mongait 1959:361). Several molds were discovered in excavation during 1948; it is believed that they were lost during the destruction of the church in December of 1240 by the Tatars. One of the molds was inscribed with the name of its owner/maker: Maxim (Mongait 1959:359).
