ORAL REPORT

Assignment: To give a 3-5 minute oral report to the class on the controversy (problem) surrounding your research subject. You should use at least one visual of your choice (In computer classroom, you should use PowerPoint).

Audience: Classmates and Instructor

Purpose: To research and begin to organize your material for a subsequent research report by presenting your findings to the class.

Evaluation: Classmates will evaluate each speaker and speech with a checklist. Instructor will compile and give ratings in the areas of unity, support, coherence, and presentation.

A good oral report will be competent in the following areas:

Unity

Explains subject of report and purpose

Narrows the subject appropriately for a short oral report

Stays on subject throughout report

Support

Develops the subject adequately

Uses vivid details, descriptions, examples, or comparisons to support your main idea

Uses effective visual(s).

Coherence

Arranges the presentation effectively

Keeps the audience aware of change from one idea to the next through use of transitions

Presentation

Maintains eye contact with audience

Uses acceptable standard English grammar and usage

Speaks clearly and loud enough for all to hear
