Meramec Student Math League

Article I

Purpose

The purpose of the Meramec Student Math League at Saint Louis Community College, Meramec, shall be to promote academic achievement in mathematics, uphold a few scholarships for math major and minor students, and further the development of leadership and service while cultivating fellowship among organization members and within the school.

Article II

Membership

Membership within the Meramec Student Math League will fall into two components, Active members, and Provisional members.

Eligibility: Students eligible for active membership shall have completed twelve credit hours and have completed six credits hours of math. Students eligible for provisional membership should be currently enrolled in twelve credit hours with three credits hours of math. Also have good standing in their education career.

Active Members: An active member shall described as any individual who has met the criteria cited above. All active members in good standing shall have voting rights within the organization. All Active members are required to attend all the meetings, work with organization for activities which held on the campus. All of the active members have chance to do community service. Active members are highly recommended to take math contest each semester issued by Missouri Mathematics League.

Provisional Members: An provisional members shall described as any individual who has shown interest in Meramec Mathematics Organization but have yet to fully meet the criteria for the active membership. They should be enrolled in twelve credit hours with three credit hours of math for membership. Provisional members may not hold the organization office, nor vote on election. They are recommended to take math contest each semester issued by Missouri Mathematics League.

Article III

Officers

Officers within the Meramec Mathematics Organization shall consist of a President, Vice President, Sectary, and Treasurer. All of the officers are not allowed to take the math contest held two times a month. The requirement, Duties and responsibilities of each officer are as follow.

Section I

Requirements

Any student interested in being an officer for Meramec Mathematics Organization should have completed Calculus I. He/She is going to math field or math related field such as engineering, chemistry, etc. And have good standing in education.

Section II

Election Procedure

Individuals wishing to run for office may be nominated by members present at a specified meeting. Individuals unable to be present for nominations may submit their intention to run in writing to the President and Advisor, prior to the election date and within the prescribed notification period. Notices of intention to run for an office received after the cut off date will not be accepted.

Members running for office will submit a short essay of 100 words or less in writing stating why they want to hold that particular office. These essays will be used by candidates in lieu of campaigning and will be placed onto the ballot for voting members. Campaigning for the election will be permitted with certain limits.

Section III

Duties of Officers

President

Call and preside over all the business meetings

Vote only in case of tie

Work with officers and advisor to develop organization goals

Along with Advisor, serve as liaison between the organization and campus administration

Makes the flyers for the meetings and give to the sectary to post on the bulletin boards

Work with Advisor and officers to make math contests

Makes the agenda for all the business meetings

Will remember they represent Mathematics Organization both on and off campus at all times, and conduct themselves accordingly

Post the answers on outside of the contest room and on website (if applicable)

 

Vice President

Perform all duties of the President in the event the President is absent.

Attend CCC meetings and report to the Math Organization on the day of meetings

Work with Advisor and officers to make math contests

Work with officers and advisor to develop organization goals

Post any agenda or notes on the website (if applicable)

Will remember they represent Mathematics Organization both on and off campus at all times, and conduct themselves accordingly

Sectary

Work with Advisor and officers to make math contests

Work with officers and advisor to develop organization goals

Will remember they represent Mathematics Organization both on and off campus at all times, and conduct themselves accordingly

Post meeting flyers on the bulletin board

Contact all the members via emails any updates

Attend CCC meetings and report to the Math Organization on the day of meetings if Vice President is absent

Sectary shall assume any duties assigned by the President

Will assist other officers whenever asked

Treasurer

Responsible for keeping and recording all meeting and business minutes

Responsible for verification of organization financial record and student activity center (SAC)

Treasure shall assume any duties assigned by the President

Will assist other officers whenever asked

Will attend CCC meetings and report to the Math Organization on the day of meetings if sectary is absent

Will remember they represent Mathematics Organization both on and off campus at all times, and conduct themselves accordingly

Work with Advisor and officers to make math contests

Work with officers and advisor to develop organization goals

Shall collect original documents vouchers and supporting invoices and or statements from members, make copies for record purposes and submit original to Advisor for reimbursement

Executive Board

Meramec Mathematics Organization Executive Board shall consist solely of its officers and advisors. At executive meetings all members of the board may cast a vote with the exception of the advisors who are non-voting members of the board. At executive meetings all members will work with advisors to make math contest two times a month. The math contest shall be held on campus for math students. Members of executive board are not allowed to take the math contest and are not allowed to share any information to anybody at any time before the contest date.

Section IV

Replacement of Officers

In the event an officer should find it necessary to resign an election shall be held to elect a replacement, with the exception of the office of the President. Should Presidency become vacant the Vice President will assume the office. Upon ascension, to the Presidency, an election to fill the post for the Vice President will be required. Nomination from the floor will be accepted and an election will be held at the first business meeting after the officer’s resignation. Majority vote casts shall determine the new officer. The President, with the advice and consent of the Advisor may temporarily appoint a member to fill any vacated post until an election meeting can be held.

Article IV

Amendment and Revision to the Constitution

The Meramec Mathematics Organization may be amended by a two-thirds (2/3) majority vote of members present at any regular meeting, provided the proposed changes have been reviewed and discussed at the meeting immediately preceding the vote. Members not present may be able to review and/or download proposed changes off the website (if applicable).

Fifty –one percent (51%) of the active membership present to vote on proposed amendments/revisions shall constitute a majority vote.
