I am writing to keep you abreast of some recent changes to our COVID-19 cases and make you aware of some adjustments that are being made as a response. In addition to the increasing rise in COVID-19 cases in our area, we have also had a recent increase in COVID-19 cases at the College. In order to mitigate this challenge, we will need to take additional precautions.
First – All classes with an on-campus component that can shift to live virtual lecture format (LVL) will need to shift beginning Monday, Nov. 16. This is to reduce the concentration of faculty and students on campus. This may feel abrupt, but in order to change the dynamic, it is best to act promptly. Classes that cannot be shifted to LVL will remain on campus as we continue to monitor this situation. Based on the current data, we expect these precautions will be in place until a few weeks after Thanksgiving break.
Classes that cannot shift to LVL will continue to meet on campus and must be approved by the dean and chief campus academic officer. It is worth noting that city or county guidance and directives may change our planning in the near term. Students in most classes should expect to meet with their class in Blackboard Collaborate or the platform identified for use by the instructor beginning Monday, Nov. 16, at the scheduled class times.
Second – For other units or employee groups, we should not increase the current on-site staffing levels at this time. Some units may have planned or began implementing changes that would increase the on-site density. Please put these changes on hold for now unless your manager or supervisor has determined through the temporary Work from Home guidelines that your position and/or work is not suitable for working from home.
We expect that these modifications will have positive outcomes on our COVID-19 case numbers. With cases increasing throughout our area, it is important that we stay vigilant with our safety protocols. Please continue to wear a mask, keep a safe physical distance and wash your hands regularly.
While this shift to LVL classes wherever possible is undoubtedly disappointing and disruptive, it is necessary for the health and safety of the STLCC community. We are hopeful that the recent rise in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations will abate and we will be able to hold exams at campus locations. However, carefully observing all established protocols and any additional precautions that may be communicated by city, county or state officials are imperative to stop this recent rise in cases.

We will continue to monitor the data and guidance, and we will adjust to meet the needs of our students in a safe way. As always, the health and safety of our College community is a priority, and we’ll keep you informed.
