CARES Act Funds to Support Enrolled Students

STLCC Students,

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed our lives dramatically. That’s why at St. Louis Community College, we want to make sure we communicate with you often to provide the latest information related to aspects of the pandemic that directly affects your lives. We are empathetic to the sudden challenges that this time represents for all of our students, faculty and staff.

In response to the needs across the nation, the federal government recently passed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act. St. Louis Community College was allocated $4,363,632 in CARES Act funds to provide emergency support to students who qualify for Title IV funds under the Higher Education Act (HEA) of 1965.

Here’s how the College will allocate the funds to help currently enrolled students:

• Students with an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of zero dollars will be split into two groups: (1) Students who are enrolled at least half-time will receive $1,000; (2) Students who are enrolled less than half-time will receive $500.

• Students with an EFC above zero that makes them eligible for Pell grants will receive $500.

The remaining funds will be used as emergency funds for students who could be eligible to participate in programs under the HEA but who do not currently have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file. Those students will need to complete a scholarship application. The emergency awards will range from $500 to $1,000 for students who are essential workers and other requests such as housing, daycare, food, medical or utilities.

We are here for you and want to assist in any way we can to help you stay on your educational path. We understand you are dealing with some difficulties right now and hope these funds can provide some much-needed assistance.

We encourage you to stay safe, be healthy and seek help from us or other local resources if you need assistance.

Sincerely,
